Frequently Asked Questions
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a subset of physical therapy that focuses on your function of your pelvic floor muscles. These muscles are involved in bladder, bowel, and sexual function. Dr. Meredith is trained as a physical therapist that can assess the whole body but has additional training to help you assess this area of your body. If you are suffering with any bowel, bladder, or sexual problem, pelvic floor physical therapy can help!
The short answer is YES!
It’s estimated that 50%-75% of people experience pelvic floor issues, often without realizing that pelvic floor therapy is an option. Pelvic floor therapy can help if you’re dealing with pelvic pain, urinary or bowel issues, or sexual dysfunction. These concerns can affect individuals of all genders and may be linked to a wide range of conditions.

You don’t need symptoms to benefit from pelvic physical therapy.
Pelvic PT is proactive care. It focuses on education, movement, and nervous system regulation to help your pelvic floor work with your body, not against it. Many clients come in without pain or dysfunction but want to better understand their body, support athletic performance, improve sexual wellness, or prevent issues before they start.
Think of pelvic PT like routine maintenance — similar to strength training, dental care, or ergonomic support — not just something you seek when something goes wrong.

Pelvic health is something most of us were never taught, yet it plays a major role in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Pelvic PT during pregnancy is proactive — it helps you understand your body, support the changes happening daily, and keep feeling good as your pregnancy progresses.
Dr. Meredith consistently sees that clients she works with during pregnancy — even for just a few visits — often need significantly less care postpartum. When you’re caring for a newborn, fewer appointments can make a big difference. Think of pelvic PT like brushing your teeth: small, intentional care now can prevent bigger issues later and set you up for a smoother recovery.
Your first visit takes place in Dr. Meredith’s private office, a calm and welcoming space designed specifically for pelvic health care.
During this initial session, she will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your current symptoms to better understand the root causes and contributing factors. Pelvic floor concerns are often connected to how the whole body is functioning, so your evaluation may include discussion of your history, movement patterns, posture, breathing, and daily habits. Together, you will establish an evidence-based, individualized plan of care designed to help you feel stronger, more comfortable, and confident in your body.
To make the most of your visit, we ask that you:
Complete your intake paperwork ahead of time
Wear comfortable clothing
Bring any questions you’d like to discuss
This first appointment is never rushed. It’s a dedicated hour to be heard, understood, and supported.
Comfortable clothes are best, something you can easily move in! Your evaluation will include some assessments of your movement and we want you to be comfortable.
Your pelvic floor muscles are located in the bowl of your pelvis and can be assessed through vaginal or rectal evaluation. While internal work can be beneficial, it’s not always necessary, as there are many effective techniques that can be performed externally. Dr. Meredith will work with you to determine if internal assessment is part of your treatment plan, always aiming to make the process as comfortable as possible.
Yes! Dr. Meredith frequently works with parents and understands that life with little ones can be unpredictable. If your child needs to be present during your session, that’s perfectly fine — the office has a safe, designated space where they can stay nearby while you focus on your care. She’s happy to accommodate children and partners, ensuring your session works for your whole family. Her goal is to meet you where you are, so you can get the care you deserve without added stress.
The number of sessions varies for each individual and depends on several factors, including your health history, the duration of your symptoms, and more. During your first visit, we’ll discuss your personalized treatment plan and provide guidance on how to get the most out of your pelvic floor physical therapy.
